We live in a world where everything appears to be separate, but in reality, the principle of Oneness underpins the whole of existence. The world’s wisdom traditions have called this ultimate One by many names – Amun, Brahman, Tao, God, Allah. This Father-Mother is the source from which all things proceed and to which they all return. It is impossible to fully describe the One, because it is Infinite and Eternal, without boundaries and outside time –“The Tao which can be expressed in words is not the eternal Tao”.
The illusion of separateness is a major cause of conflict between people and nations, as we struggle to assert ownership over ideas, resources, and other individuals. There is an urgent need to understand that we are all One, we are all family – sisters and brothers on a tiny planet hurtling through space at 110,000 kilometres an hour. Nothing, whether the universe, an atom or even a quark, can exist unless it is a unity. And we must wake up to this truth and learn to cooperate for the common good before it is too late.
