To the Greeks, the soul’s inner order was crucial for a just life. Following Socrates, Plato explored three parts of the soul which he named: intellectual, spirited and appetitive. Each part had its proper role. Sophrosyne (temperance) represents the virtue which brings these aspects into balance, leading to inner harmony.
